“Live life outside the shoebox.”
I’ve been doodling, drawing or painting on the walls and speaking in sarcasm since I could do something other than drool. So ending up as a creative director / vice president of an ad agency made perfect sense. There I was, my day job was making ads to sell SPAM. Seriously. Creating art and writing were squeezed into the edges of my workaholic life.
One day I decided I didn’t want everyday to come, to be like the one before. I didn’t want to look back from the age of 92 and say, “I wonder what would have happened if I would have tried?” If I had put my energy into pursuing my dreams instead of selling canned luncheon meat. So, I quit cushy corporate day job, moved to San Francisco, and now being an artist and writer is my life and things like vacuuming are squeezed into the edges.
My fine art is carried in galleries in California and Minnesota. I’m writing and illustrating books that are ever-so-slightly-sarcastic, working on stories that don’t come with pictures, designing gift products, riding my scooter, writing and performing music, living my “life experiment” and trying to share something with the world.
Live a big life. And wear cute shoes.
